Honey, Gallup is calling. Wanna answer?

January 7th, 2008 · No Comments

CONCORD — A quick note on New Hampshire voters. Jo and Elliot Mednick of the Salem area told me they get 10 calls a day from campaigns and/or pollsters. Usually they don’t answer, but they said it’s pretty cool when “Gallup” is what reads on the caller ID, so they sometimes pick up. They […]

Clinton braced for no Culinary nod

January 6th, 2008 · No Comments

Politico.com is reporting this important bit of Nevada news:
“(A) loss in New Hampshire, coupled with Obama’s presumed strength in South Carolina, could leave Clinton without a safe harbor to catch her breath before Feb. 5. Her aides also are pessimistic about winning the support of the powerful Culinary Workers union in Nevada — a crucial […]

Why Wyoming?

January 6th, 2008 · No Comments

Romney wins! OK, it’s Wyoming.
But there are interesting parallels to Nevada’s Republican caucus on Jan. 19.
Wyoming moved up its caucus to get more attention. It was largely ignored by all the candidates, save Mitt Romney and his sons who campaigned there. And there was scant media attention paid to the run-up.
Ryan Erwin, the Romney’s Nevada […]

Going to her strength

January 6th, 2008 · No Comments

CONCORD — Note Politico’s Ben Smith account of a Saturday Clinton event at which she took questions for 1 hour 50 minutes. This is astounding, especially for a campaign that was so tightly controlled in Iowa, as well as New Hampshire, before this weekend.
As Smith and others note, she’s great at this format because […]

The precinct that snubbed roast beef

January 6th, 2008 · No Comments

When in Iowa in November I met a guy at an Obama event named Jerry David Flusche, who works for a wind power company and seemed like a really cool guy.
Like most Nevada Democrats, he’d never caucused before. After seeing Obama in Fairfield, Iowa, the funkiest town in the entire state, he decided to caucus […]

Ron Paul bash-a-looza

January 5th, 2008 · No Comments

So you want a revolution?
Get ready. The revolution is coming — or more precisely, the Ron Paul Revolution, as supporters of the Texas congressman and Republican presidential longshot say.
Paul supporters are planning “Paul-a-Palooza 2008” for the weekend before the Nevada Jan. 19 caucuses, featuring “The Ron Paul Mystery Tour” at Texas Station, a variety show […]

Or Not

January 5th, 2008 · No Comments

Ben Smith of Sun partner Politico writes on his blog that he got an early look at the CNN/WMUR poll taken Jan. 4 and 5, and it shows a dead heat, with very little bounce out of Iowa for Obama.

Nevada union delays endorsement

January 5th, 2008 · No Comments

The 60,000-strong union of casino and hotel workers was expected to make a presidential endorsement after the Iowa caucus, but Saturday,  the union said it will wait until after next week’s New Hampshire primary.
A spokeswoman for the Culinary union said an announcement will come Wednesday morning.
The delay is the result of an apparent internal disagreement between the Culinary […]

Obama surges in New Hampshire

January 5th, 2008 · No Comments

CONCORD, N.H. — Two new New Hampshire polls show the Iowa results are spilling over into New Hampshire: American Research Group gives Illinois Sen. Barack Obama a 12 point lead, while Rasmussen paints a 10 point spread.   Neither is the Gallup for accuracy, but it shows the movement.
On the ground, the polls feel right. Obama is […]
