The state Democratic Party is advertising not only for its own caucus, but the Republicans’ as well.
In a new spot running statewide, Sen. Harry Reid walks through a room in Searchlight (birthplace of the Majority Leader).
“The presidential candidates are listening. So whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, caucus on Saturday the 19th. Let them […]

About that 100,000 caucus turnout…
January 9th, 2008 · No Comments
Democratic circles are abuzz with excitement about Nevada’s caucus, and people are starting to think that the state party’s early estimate — recently repeated by Sen. Harry Reid — of 100,000 people might just be possible.Except now, Nevada’s senior senator is dialing down expectations.
“I don’t know how many will show up,” he said this afternoon […]

Berkley endorses Clinton
January 9th, 2008 · No Comments
Rep. Shelley Berkley announced her endorsement of Sen. Hillary Clinton this morning, praising the former first lady’s positions on Yucca Mountain, health care, veterans, the economy and just about everything else.
Up to now, Berkley has preached neutrality along with Sen. Harry Reid (although his son, Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid heads Clinton’s campaign office.)
Berkley […]

Clinton aides soldiering on in Nevada
January 8th, 2008 · No Comments
On the ground, Clinton’s Nevada folks are trying to keep their chins up.
“We expect to compete in Nevada,” said Hilarie Grey, Clinton’s Nevada
spokeswoman. “We are full speed ahead in Nevada.”
Like Obama and Edwards, no word yet on when Clinton will visit, which would
be a major sign she plans to make a stand here.
But it doesn’t […]

Jan. 19. Nevada. Check.
January 7th, 2008 · No Comments
Since Thursday’s Iowa caucus, the national media has skipped (or scorned) Nevada’s Jan. 19 caucus, skipping ahead to the South Carolina contest on Jan. 26.
Well, Sen. Barack Obama hasn’t forgotten about us.
As he ordered a hot tea with lemon in New Hampshire today, reporters fired some questions, including this one:
“Q. What’s next after New Hampshire?”
A. […]

Why Wyoming?
January 6th, 2008 · No Comments
Romney wins! OK, it’s Wyoming.
But there are interesting parallels to Nevada’s Republican caucus on Jan. 19.
Wyoming moved up its caucus to get more attention. It was largely ignored by all the candidates, save Mitt Romney and his sons who campaigned there. And there was scant media attention paid to the run-up.
Ryan Erwin, the Romney’s Nevada […]

Romney wants a Nevada caucus win (should anyone care)
January 4th, 2008 · No Comments
Remember, blog readers, the Democrats aren’t the only one holding a caucus on Jan. 19.
Following Romney’s 2nd place showing to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in Iowa on Thursday night, his campaign manager held a conference call for reporters this morning to put the best face on what will kindly be described as a disappointing […]

Clinton, on who missed the caucus
January 4th, 2008 · No Comments
Sen. Hillary Clinton apparently doesn’t like the caucus process. In her speech last night, she left with a little kick in the shins of the Byzantine process.
From CNN’s transcript:
“You know, there were a lot of people that couldn’t caucus tonight despite the very large turnout. There are a lot of Iowans who are in the […]

Look sharp, TV’s in the room
January 4th, 2008 · No Comments
Out of all the Nevada campaigns, Sen. Barack Obama’s was the only one to hold a watch party. Despite skepticism from some campaigns (and some blog headlines) Obama’s campaign made the most of it.
• The place was packed as the results came in.
And in case you doubted a bandwagon effect, as the night wore […]

When a “watch party” can go south
January 3rd, 2008 · No Comments
All attention, of course, is on Iowa this evening. Except — if campaigns are to be believed — for many of Nevada’s campaign workers because they have work to do.
Only Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign will be holding a “watch party” - what the cool kids call sitting at a bar as results come in, even […]
