WASHINGTON — Fully one year after the Bush administration’s Justice Department fired Nevada’s Daniel Bogden in an unprecedented purge of U.S. Attorneys nationwide – leading to the fall of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales — the Senate has confirmed the state’s new top federal prosecutor.
Gregory A. Brower, a former Republican assemblyman in Nevada and one-time official at Justice, was approved by the Senate last night as Nevada’s new U.S. Attorney.
But the scandal is far from over. Earlier yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to hold White House official Joshua Bolton and former Bush aide Karl Rove in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before the committee about the firings.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told the Washington Post the full Senate would consider taking up the contempt vote after the New Year.
