The following are highlights of the best Simpson-related news and opinions found on the Web, compiled by the Las Vegas Sun.
O.J. Simpson might have walked out of the Clark County Detention Center today after posting a $125,000 bail, but it was the media that again ran with the former football star as the prominent story in publications across the country. Here’s a quick run-down of the recent updates in Simpson’s Las Vegas saga:
(AP) Simpson freed after posting $125,000 bail: The AP had several stories Wednesday, including the top story of Simpson leaving Las Vegas after posting bail. Kathleen Hennessy penned a piece about the strange sideshow that occurred outside the Las Vegas courtroom. In yet another bizarre turn of events in the case, Alfred Beardsley, one of the sports memorabilia collectors accusing Simpson of robbery, was arrested in Las Vegas because of parole violation. Before Beardsley headed to the slammer himself, he questioned the authenticity of the recording that was made of the alleged robbery.
Much like the AP, TMZ.com has kept up its continuous coverage — reporting that another suspect in the robbery, Charles Cashmore, has turned himself in to Las Vegas police. Cashmore was one of two individuals the metro released surveillance video shots of on Tuesday.
The courthouse was packed with journalists, Simpson supporters and relatives, including his oldest child, Arnelle Simpson. Also at the court hearing was Simpson’s girlfriend, Christine Prody, who, in a story with the NYDAILYNEWS.com called the charges against Simpson “ridiculous.” Marcia Clark, the prosecutor for the state of California during Simpson’s murder trial, also was inside the courtroom.
Things were much more of a circus — media, or otherwise — outside of court. One man dressed up in a chicken costume with a sign that read: Jail – not bail. Others promoted Web sites, or sold items like “Free OJ” orange juice. One man in particular, definitely got his 15 minutes of fame — constantly interrupted Simpson’s lawyer, Yale Galanter. There had to be others still, who wished this whole ordeal never happened.
