A motorcyclist who was killed in a collision with a car in the eastern Las Vegas Valley about 6:30 p.m. Monday was identified today as 27-year-old Preston Lee Weil, the Clark County Coroner's Office said today.
Metro Police are still investigating the crash that occurred at Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.
Police said the motorcyclist was northbound on Nellis when an ambulance entered the intersection also traveling northbound on Nellis with lights and sirens on as it entered the intersection with Stewart.
The man riding the 20-5 Suzuki GSXR 600 motorcycle then accelerated quickly, police said.
A 2007 Toyota Camry was southbound on Nellis, making a left turn into a private driveway at 500 N. Nellis Blvd., police said. The motorcycle was unable to stop and struck the right side of the Toyota, driven by 69-year-old Barbara Gentry. Gentry was not injured. A passenger, 69-year-old James Daugherty of Las Vegas, had minor injuries, police said.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, police said. This is the 77th fatal traffic collision in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
